Blue Bell Ice Cream GIVEAWAY!

July 31, 2013

It's no secret that I like hosting giveaways. So when I was given the opportunity to host a Blue Bell ice cream giveaway, I jumped at the chance. Blue Bell ice cream made it's way into South Florida in 2009 and has quickly become on of the most popular ice cream brands in the region. Personally, their cookies & cream and mocha madness are the best I've ever had. Blue Bell is a southern staple that is sold in only 19 states. Neat part is that even though this creamery is only available in less than half of the US states, it's still the third top grossing ice cream company in the country.

California Dreamin: Wayo Sushi

July 22, 2013

After almost a week in California, we finally had the chance to eat some form of Asian food. Picky eaters be damned! In a split second, the Asian food enthusiasts in our group rallied together for a majority vote to eat sushi, leaving the two party poopers non-Asian food eaters sitting at the bar snickering at us while we devoured some of the most delicious raw fish we've ever consumed. Since this was a last minute decision, finding a restaurant that could sit a party of seven with no reservation was no easy task. My first choice, Kiss Seafood, was booked and not accepting any walk-ins for the night. Ino was a sushi place that had been well recommended, but was unable to accommodate such a large party on such short notice. That left us with option 3, Wayo.

Sweetness Bakeshop is coming to Hialeah!

July 15, 2013

As some of you may know, Sweetness Bakeshop is expanding and opening up a second location in my beloved Hialeah. If this isn't cause for celebration, I don't know what is. Instead of busting out my casuelas and vuvuzela, I decided to team up with the awesome folks at Sweetness to host a sweet giveaway. If you're not familiar with Sweetness, you can check out my 2 year old review on them here.

California Dreamin: Chichen Itza

July 14, 2013

I was hell bent on having Mexican food while in Los Angeles, even if it meant ditching my friends and going on my own. Luckily though, my friends were relatively good sports and came along, even if two of them didn't eat anything. We drove around in a neighborhood that looked kind of sketch and pulled into what seemed like a warehouse. The address was correct, but where was the restaurant? Turns out the restaurant is located inside the warehouse, which once inside is actually a stand-alone food court with several different eateries. Definitely not something you see in good ol' Florida, but I was game. The eatery offers casual counter service with no frills and no fuss.

California Dreamin: The Chicken Lady and Mel's Drive-In

July 11, 2013

I had read online about an infamous chicken lady who served up delicious fried chicken tenders and mac and cheese. This was music to my ears. I dragged my four friends down to a small strip mall in search of the chicken lady. The restaurant is small and the walls are all adorned by autographed pictures of celebrities that had at some point eaten the chicken lady's food. The waitress looked a lot like Heather Locklear or maybe it was her, times are tough after all. Heather made a comment that we didn't look familiar and inquired how we had heard about the restaurant, we simply answered, "the internet."

California Dreamin: Manhattan Beach Post and Manhattan Beach Creamery

July 9, 2013

Our first stop in our California Adventure was brunch at M.B. Post. Trying to find a restaurant that five people can agree on is no easy task, but Manhattan Beach Post left all of us with full stomachs and happy faces. The restaurant looks like a modern cabin and the food is served family/tapas style.
