Instagram 50k Milestone Giveaway Of Some Of My Favorite Things!

November 16, 2015

Last week, my instagram account hit 50,000 followers. Fifty thousand people are hungry enough to follow my burger loving, donut face stuffing, cookie baking ass... that's nuts! For some people that's no big deal, but to me that's fucking huge. I kicked off my blog's instagram account almost 4 years ago, so for me it hasn't been a quick jump. It's taken years to improve my food pictures and find my own style, so this is cause for a god damn celebration!

The FGH Breakfast Guide To Gaining 10 Pounds In Portland, Oregon

November 6, 2015

Unlike other people, when I travel I am most excited about the indigenous food I'll eat. When I went to Paris, I wanted to only eat choux pastry and swim in a sea of Roquefort cheese. Who cares about the Eiffel tower when there's so many baguettes to eat?! In Spain, all I cared about was chorizo and churros. My sight-seeing revolves around my dining reservations. So on my recent trip to Portland, my dining itinerary was several pages long while my sightseeing down to 3 vague bullet points (book store, mountains and coast).

October 30, 2015

So the folks over at MIABites have put together the perfect event:  Taco & Tequila Showdown or #TNTShowdown. They've rallied up some of Miami's best and brightest chefs and gotten them to cook up their best taco.

Found A Hidden Gem In Playa Del Carmen's Hidden Beach Resort

September 28, 2015

So full disclosure on this post before I get started: I was invited to Hidden Beach Resort in Playa Del Carmen by the hotel's parent company, Karisma Hotels and Social Exposure.

Now that that's out of the way, when I first found out about Hidden Beach Resort I was intrigued by the name... and then I found out it was an all-inclusive nudist resort. I know what you're thinking,"You're a self proclaimed 'hedonist' how is this even a big deal?!" The reality is I've never been to a nudist resort and I had never been to Mexico before. Pero like, I said PLP and packed my bags for Playa Del Carmen.

Miami History Meets Cuban Food And Culture on Miami Culinary Tours

August 8, 2015

I finally got enough down-time to check out the Miami Culinary Tours. Primarily targeting the tourist crowd visiting Miami, the Miami Culinary Tours offer a 2-3 hour glimpse into the food scene of 3 iconic Miami neighborhoods: South Beach, Wynwood and Little Havana. However, since the summer is the all around "slow season" for events and tourism in the 305, the Miami Culinary Tours becomes a great outing option for locals.

Magic City Pizza Is The Best Pizza South Of Flagler St.

July 31, 2015

I've been insta-stalking Magic City Pizza for a few months now. Then Burger Beast wrote about them and I decided to bite the bullet and give them a shot. It's in a corner spot in a small shopping plaza on Coral Way that can be easily missed if you blink. The restaurant is small and primarily intended for take-out and delivery but, there are a couple of small tables if you just can not wait to stuff your face.

Pub-Crawls and Boozy Adventures with SWSBevGirl!

July 27, 2015

I had the pleasure of teaming up with SWSBevGirl, the persona created by the social media folks over at Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida, for an epic pub-crawl in Delray Beach. You might recognize the name, "Southern Wine & Spirits," since they're one of the main hosts for a small, little annual party called the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. The pub-crawl was hosted by both Partida Tequila and SWSBevGirl in celebration of National Tequila Day. Participants were all winners via SWSBevGirl's Instagram contest and were treated to an all expense paid, gluttonous tequila infused celebration. Y tremendo celebration se formo, six restaurants, countless drinks and a gluttonous amount of food boiled down to quite the pachanga on Delray's Atlantic Ave.

Avocado Gelato Recipe!

June 26, 2015

I was lucky enough to get hooked up with a copy of the book, The Art of Making Gelato: 50 Flavors to Make at Home by Morgan Morano. There were some really interesting recipes in the book, but the one that peaked my interest the most was the avocado gelato recipe. Now the recipes in this book are not easy, they all require a food scale as all the ingredients are in weight measurements and some ingredients are god-damned impossible difficult to find. In particular, tapioca starch which is required in all of the recipes and acts as a thickening agent and reduces ice crystallization. The only place I was able to find tapioca starch was at my local oriental market.

Instacart Is In The 305 And I'm Hooking You Up With Free Groceries!

June 23, 2015

Instacart is here and it's spreading through out South Florida like wild fire. Having launched in Miami back in May of this year it'll be in North Miami this week. Instacart is the brain-child of engineer Apoorva Mehta. After working long hours at Amazon, he realized he never had food in his fridge and other grocery services were too cumbersome. This caused Apoorva's wheels to start turning and in 2012 Instacart was born. Instacart cuts out the need of inventory, warehouse and trucks like that used by other services and instead connects customers with personal shoppers, or independent contractors who shop for and deliver grocery orders, providing their own transportation.

Common Threads' Cooking For Life Festival Giveaway!

March 26, 2015

Common Threads is a non-profit organization that is near and dear to my heart. I've written about them before and I'm now on their associate board member. Common Threads' mission is to educate children on nutrition and physical well-being and to foster an appreciation of cultural diversity through cooking classes. Their goal is to teach children about how to make healthy choices, while educating them about the world. Common Thread hopes this will help children realize that they are all more similar than different from each other, which promotes respect and tolerance of all people.

El Rey De Las Fritas is my BAE

March 5, 2015

I've been going to El Rey De Las Fritas for years. This restaurant is the epitome of las 3 B. It's bueno bonito y barato in every sense of the word. This place is supposably one of the oldest places in the 305 get a frita cubana, but I won't go into a full history lesson cuz ain't nobody got time for dat. If you want to know more about la frita cubana, check out what my friend, Burger Beast, has to say here. El Rey De Las Fritas has a few locations around town, but I mostly frequent the one in Hialeah and occasionally the one in Little Havana.
