Avocado Gelato Recipe!

I was lucky enough to get hooked up with a copy of the book, The Art of Making Gelato: 50 Flavors to Make at Home by Morgan Morano. There were some really interesting recipes in the book, but the one that peaked my interest the most was the avocado gelato recipe. Now the recipes in this book are not easy, they all require a food scale as all the ingredients are in weight measurements and some ingredients are god-damned impossible difficult to find. In particular, tapioca starch which is required in all of the recipes and acts as a thickening agent and reduces ice crystallization. The only place I was able to find tapioca starch was at my local oriental market. 

Instacart Is In The 305 And I'm Hooking You Up With Free Groceries!

Instacart is here and it's spreading through out South Florida like wild fire. Having launched in Miami back in May of this year it'll be in North Miami this week. Instacart is the brain-child of engineer Apoorva Mehta. After working long hours at Amazon, he realized he never had food in his fridge and other grocery services were too cumbersome. This caused Apoorva's wheels to start turning and in 2012 Instacart was born. Instacart cuts out the need of inventory, warehouse and trucks like that used by other services and instead connects customers with personal shoppers, or independent contractors who shop for and deliver grocery orders, providing their own transportation.

Estrella Damm Teams Up With Miami Restaurants For 3 Course Price-Fixed Meals

This summer, Barcelona takes over Miami with the Estrella Damm Chef’s Choicest  experience, featuring original 3-course meals prepared by 25 of Miami’s top chefs inspired by flavors of the Mediterranean. Each menu will be unique to each participating venue, but they will all include pulpo (octopus) in the main dish and will be paired with Estrella Damm, brewed in Barcelona with Mediterranean ingredients since 1876. Available from June 20 to July 5, the 3-course menus will range in price from $30 to $52 and offer the participating chefs an opportunity to showcase their creative talents and push their boundaries with the pulpo and Estrella Damm pairing. Staying true to its strong gastronomic ties, The Estrella Damm Chef’s Choice menus will bring a one-of-a-kind experience, where pulpo (octopus) entrĂ©e will be the main attraction and include an appetizer and dessert.

The Local has had a fuck-ton lot of changes since my post about them 4 years ago. Their executive chef is now Phil Bryant, formerly of Swine Southern Table & Bar, and the menu is completely different (expect a blogpost on their food later on). For now, I'm filling you in on a kick ass event they host every month. It's the Roast & Toast Boozin’ Brunch Series and every month they invite an outsider to team up with them to offer a kick-ass brunch. This month they're teaming up with Sixpoint Brewery out of NYC to offer a beer paired, four course brunch on Sunday, June 7th, 2015 at noon.
